The Scriptures quote Jesus as saying that if you have the faith of a mustard seed, you should be able to tell a mountain to throw itself into the sea — and it would happen.
This passage has haunted me for the better part of my life. Really? I don't even have the faith of a tiny little mustard seed? How utterly wimpish.
Then I read something today. The rabbis had an idiom "removing mountains.” A teacher who could remove the difficulties for his students was considered a mountain-remover. “Removing mountains" was the phrase depicting a person who could remove difficulties from the path ahead.
What a relief.
I believe, from time to time, that I do have faith remove the difficulties ahead. Perhaps it comes from the fact that I've seen God remove so many troubles from the path behind.
This helps me out, and it should help you out too. Because neither of us has seen many mountains casting themselves into the sea lately.
